ABCMouse – Online Toddler to Kindergarten Curriculum (My Review)
Why I looked into ABCMouse
Last Fall, after Jelly Bean turned 3, I began to panic because I wanted her to start (homeschool) Preschool, but I was too busy with my newborn and my 21-month old. Since I knew that I wouldn’t have time to do a formal curriculum, I decided to see what all the fuss was about ABCMouse.
Does a 3-year-old REALLY need to begin preschool? No, of course not. You should always follow the lead of your child. In Jelly Bean’s case, she was more than ready.
What is ABCMouse?
If you have small children and they watch PBS Kids, you’ve probably seen and heard the ABCMouse commercial about a thousand times! It’s easy to get brainwashed by TV and not actually investigate, so as a teacher and a concerned homeschool mom, I checked it out.
This is what I found:
What did I find in ABCMouse?
I have to say that I was very pleased with the curriculum choices, but I was even more impressed by the interface!
I love how fun, colorful, exciting and interactive the site is.
Best of all, you can start with a free 30-day trial!
I have not regretted the decision to buy this program for a second!
What does ABCMouse teach?
It starts in Toddler stage and goes all the way up to Kindergarten. (As of 2016, they are rolling out 1st grade levels!!)
You can register up to 3 children, which is perfect for my bunch.
- coloring pages,
- audio books,
- shopping malls,
- the zoo,
- the farm,
- and worksheets to print out for extra reinforcement!
Your child receives a raffle ticket after completing each task, which can be redeemed at the toy store, clothing shop or pet shop.
They also receive prizes at the end of their lesson sequence and it is added to their bedroom inventory. They can take the items out and decorate their bedrooms and backyard.
I mean, seriously – who thought up all this cool stuff??! Wish it was around when I was a kid! 😛
I wholeheartedly recommend ABCMouse!
ABC Mouse was exactly what Jelly Bean needed. And not only her, but my then 21-month old, Baby Ruth, took her turns right after her sister and loved it just as much! We will keep using this program til all three children complete it.
I do need to mention that we own a TouchSmart computer, which makes it much easier for my children to handle the controls. There is a tutorial for children on how to use a mouse, but it is still too difficult for most 1, 2 and 3-year-olds to manage. Lots of fine motor skills are needed, as well as hand-eye coordination. Since we have our TouchSmart screen, my girls have it easier. If this is a concern for you, you can always let your child use a Tablet instead of the computer.
Check out the features in this great video. You can also subscribe to the YouTube channel which features some of their songs and letter movies.
